Relationship Affirmations

Forty-two lists of affirmations for relationships: the early uncertain part, long marriages, the week after an argument, distance, jealousy, rebuilding trust, and the particular work of keeping a sense of yourself inside a partnership.

Affirmations about relationships tend to go wrong in one specific way – they get aimed at the other person. “He will realise what he has” is a wish about someone else’s behaviour, and repeating it mostly rehearses the resentment. The lists here point inward instead: what you want to be able to say, ask for, tolerate, or stop tolerating.

That includes the uncomfortable ones. Affirmations for leaving, for accepting that someone is not going to change, and for the period afterwards sit here alongside the ones about deepening a relationship that is working.

If you are in a relationship that involves fear for your safety, no affirmation is the right tool. Please contact a domestic abuse service in your country.
